30-10-2023 (BANGKOK) In a move aimed at boosting the economy, Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced that entertainment venues in tourist provinces will be permitted to extend their operating hours until 4am starting from the upcoming New Year festival.
This initiative aligns with the policy of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and will be initially rolled out in provinces known for their popularity among tourists, particularly those from abroad. Notable destinations like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket are expected to benefit from this relaxation of closing hours.
However, Minister Anutin emphasized that this extension comes with a firm condition – these entertainment establishments must maintain a crime-free environment during their prolonged operation.
“We are doing this for people who do not break the law. So, people must strictly abide by the law, for example by refraining from drink-driving, carrying weapons, and dealing drugs,” Mr. Anutin stated.
To ensure safety, the new policy stipulates that individuals under the age of 20 will not be allowed entry into these venues. Additionally, visitors are encouraged to play a proactive role in preventing altercations and disturbances.
Mr. Anutin further mentioned that public feedback on this matter will be accepted until December 15. Subsequently, the proposal related to this entertainment policy will be submitted to the cabinet for official approval. It is expected to be in effect in time for the New Year festival, with the primary aim of giving a much-needed boost to the economy.
