3-6-2023 (BANGKOK) In a heart-wrenching incident, a 95-year-old man shot and killed his 94-year-old wife before turning the gun on himself. The reasons behind this tragic act evoke sadness and empathy, as the couple, burdened by old age and various health ailments, decided to end their lives to prevent becoming a burden to their children.
The incident took place at 5 p.m. on the 1st of the month in Chachoengsao County, Bangkok. The deceased couple lived in a two-story independent house along with their son, daughter-in-law, grandchild, and a maid.
The 95-year-old man, identified as Suksai, was a retired army veteran. He was found sitting beside the lifeless body of his wife, Chali, aged 94, with a gunshot wound to his right temple. Chali was discovered lying dead on a wooden sofa, having suffered a gunshot wound to her head.
Upon investigation, the police learned that Chali had undergone knee surgery several years ago and, due to her advanced age, had been bedridden ever since. Her husband had been diligently taking care of her all these years.
On the morning of the incident, the elderly couple expressed their concerns to their son about being a burden to their children and grandchildren due to their old age. They expressed a desire to no longer continue living. At that time, their son did not take their complaints seriously, assuming they were merely venting frustrations. He and his wife went to the hospital for a medical check-up, leaving the elderly couple alone with the maid, who was also advanced in age.
The police noted that there were no signs of a struggle at the scene. The firearm found at the scene belonged to Suksai, and considering his previous remarks about not wanting to live anymore, their son did not dispute the cause of death. Currently, the bodies have been sent for autopsy.
