1-1-2024 (TOKYO) Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc. revealed on Monday that water from the fuel pools at the top floors of the No. 7 and No. 2 reactors at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant in Niigata Prefecture spilled over due to strong earthquakes. Fortunately, no damage or leakage outside the buildings has been confirmed.
According to TEPCO, a thorough examination of the fuel pools for reactors No. 1 through No. 7 around 6:45 p.m. revealed that water containing radioactive materials had overflowed. Approximately 10 liters of water spilled from the No. 2 reactor, while about 4 liters overflowed from the No. 7 reactor. TEPCO is actively monitoring radiation levels in the affected areas.
