16-9-2023 (SINGAPORE) The opening qualifying session of the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix was marred by a significant delay as Lance Stroll grappled with a loss of control in his Aston Martin, resulting in a dramatic collision with the circuit’s final corner wall.
The incident sent shockwaves through the racing world, but there was a collective sigh of relief as Lance Stroll promptly communicated to his team via radio that he was unharmed. Despite the terrifying crash, Stroll managed to extricate himself from the wreckage and walked away from the incident.
However, as a precautionary measure, he was subsequently transported to the medical centre for a thorough check-up to ensure there were no hidden injuries or aftereffects.
Oscar Piastri, McLaren’s Australian driver, found himself in an incredibly precarious position during the heart-stopping incident, trailing just behind Stroll’s stricken car. Unfortunately, the incident’s fallout had a direct impact on Piastri’s qualifying performance. He ultimately finished 17th and failed to advance to the Q2 session.
Reflecting on the incident, Piastri expressed relief at Stroll’s well-being but couldn’t help but lament the timing of their positions on the track. He shared his thoughts with Sky Sports, stating, “I’m glad Lance is okay; it’s a very significant crash. It’s just a shame we were just behind it instead of just in front of it, so it makes our prospects for tomorrow’s race rather challenging.”
