7-7-2023 (NEW YORK) A collision between a double-decker tour bus and an MTA bus in Manhattan on Thursday night resulted in at least 46 people sustaining injuries, according to officials.
The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) reported that a Topview NYC double-decker tour bus crashed into an MTA bus at the intersection of 1st Avenue and E. 23rd Street at approximately 7 p.m.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the MTA bus had the right of way while traveling east on 23rd Street. However, the tour bus ignored a red light and proceeded north on 1st Avenue, ultimately colliding with the MTA bus.
Both buses were carrying passengers at the time of the accident.
Police sources stated that 32 individuals were taken to the hospital, while four others received on-scene evaluations. Additionally, 10 victims chose not to seek medical attention. The number of injuries was anticipated to change, but authorities noted that most of the victims sustained minor injuries such as cuts, bruises, and scrapes. Thankfully, no life-threatening injuries were reported.
Due to the severity of the crash, some passengers on the double-decker bus had to be rescued through the windows.
At the time of the incident, the MTA bus was filled to its maximum capacity.
Sources indicate that the driver of the tour bus will be issued a summons. At present, there is no evidence of criminal behavior associated with the collision.
Authorities are actively investigating the ongoing incident.
