21-9-2023 (BANGKOK) Shocked passengers on a BTS Skytrain in Bangkok witnessed an alarming incident as one of the train’s doors remained wide open during its journey between the Bang Chak and Punnawithi stations. A video of the incident, initially shared by a TikTok user under the account @star111042, quickly went viral, causing concern among commuters and raising questions about safety protocols.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the incident has prompted criticism regarding the safety measures implemented by the train operator, Bangkok Mass Transit System Plc. In response, the operator issued an apology and explained that the door had experienced a malfunction on the day of the incident, although the specific nature of the problem was not disclosed.
Control center personnel were alerted to the issue, and staff members were dispatched to the door to ensure passenger safety. The problem was successfully resolved when the train reached the next station. The operator has pledged to conduct a thorough inspection of the affected BTS train carriage and implement measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
