6-7-2023 (SINGAPORE) A Malaysian woman, identified as Tan*, was left horrified when she recently caught her landlord in Singapore engaging in a lewd act while holding onto her underwear. The incident took place at a rented bedroom in a four-room flat located at Block 251 Kim Keat Road in June last year, as reported by Shin Min Daily News on Thursday.
Tan*, 23, and her boyfriend Lee* moved into the flat, sharing it with another Malaysian couple. Prior to moving in, they were informed by the previous tenant that the female landlord had a tendency to bring prospective tenants into the house when nobody was home. Taking precautions, Tan and Lee installed a CCTV camera in their room in November.
In April, while reviewing the footage from their home camera, Lee discovered that the female landlord had brought potential tenants into their room. He promptly contacted the landlord to address the situation, resolving the issue at the time.
Little did they know that a real nightmare awaited them in the future. On May 17, Tan received a notification on her phone indicating that someone had entered her room while she was at work. Alarmed, she checked the CCTV footage and was shocked to witness the male landlord entering her bedroom completely naked. He proceeded to search the room for Tan’s underwear and began masturbating.
Despite feeling mortified and bursting into tears, Tan chose to keep the camera recording to gather evidence of the appalling act. In the 15-minute video, the male landlord can be seen entering the couple’s room wearing only a towel around his waist. He then proceeds to pick up Tan’s underwear, smell it, and subsequently removes his towel to engage in the indecent act. Afterward, he returns Tan’s underwear to its original position.
Unable to contact the male landlord directly, Tan and Lee promptly filed a police report on the same day. The authorities arrived at the flat on May 18 for further investigation and seized the red underwear captured in the video, along with three additional pairs of underwear and three other items of clothing.
Deeply traumatized by the incident, Tan decided to dispose of all her underwear as she couldn’t be certain if her landlord had tampered with them. She also took the precaution of rewashing all her other clothes. Tan and Lee subsequently moved out of the Kim Keat Road flat and found alternative accommodation.
Despite their departure, Tan continues to suffer from severe psychological distress. She revealed to Shin Min that she has been taking time off work due to the trauma, experiencing frequent nightmares and emotional breakdowns during the day. Even now, Tan confessed that she still experiences fear when encountering individuals who resemble her former landlord. While she has sought professional help from a psychologist, the nightmares persist, and she remains hesitant to rent from male landlords.
Shin Min reporters reached out to the female homeowner for comment, but she declined to address the issue. Presently, two young female tenants are residing in the flat, as observed by the reporters.
Singaporean authorities are currently investigating the matter, as confirmed in response to Shin Min’s inquiries.
