17-8-2023 (SINGAPORE) Singaporean homeowner, Amanda, was left distraught when she discovered the appalling state of her recently purchased condominium apartment. A video uploaded on TikTok by user Ben’s Social Club on Tuesday (Aug 15) showcased the shocking scene that awaited Amanda in her new home.
Starting in the laundry room, the video revealed a home overrun with rubbish. The living room was covered in clothes, food waste, plastic bags, and other trash, dominating the dining table, sofa, TV counter, and even the floor. The bedrooms were no exception, with unmade beds and garbage littering every corner. The washroom was in disarray, with Amanda drawing attention to a broken corner of the sink counter, leaving sharp shards dangerously exposed.
Expressing her dismay audibly in the video, Amanda’s troubles extended beyond the mess. In screengrabs shared with AsiaOne by Ben’s Social Club, she explained that the previous tenants, Chinese students, had left her with additional problems to deal with.
“It wasn’t just a problem with them not clearing up their mess,” Amanda lamented. “They also failed to pay utility bills for a few months and even ran away before paying for their last month of rent.”
Amanda revealed that the apartment hadn’t always been in such a deplorable state. During a prior tour, when a company had rented it out to their workers, there were no major sanitation issues except for an unpleasant odor. However, when the company checked out and declined to renew the lease, the previous owner’s agent rented it to students.
According to Amanda, the contract specified that only two male students would reside there. However, she discovered that a third person, a woman, had quietly moved in. To her dismay, she found piles of electronic cigarettes scattered throughout the house and numerous cigarette butts in the kitchen sink.
Despite the circumstances, Amanda has decided to move forward. “Life has to go on anyway, so I’m letting the police deal with it… I just hope that this kind of incident won’t happen again in the future,” she expressed.
Surprisingly, Amanda plans to continue living in the apartment, despite its current state. Renovations have already commenced, with the renovator consulting her preferences. Amanda humorously remarked, “I told them that I want the walls, floor, and cabinets all removed without a single one left behind—I hate things that are dirty.”
