20-7-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) A heart-wrenching incident occurred on the Kota Bharu-Kuala Terengganu road a few days ago, when a man suffered a significant loss of approximately RM30,000 (S$8700) due to his own forgetfulness and carelessness.
The man in question, Wan Ibrahim Wan Leh, 24, who owns his own barber shop, had accumulated over RM60,000 (S$17,450) in cash over four years from his hard-earned earnings in Jertih town. He had big plans for the money, including purchasing his own car, settling his debts, and fulfilling the pilgrimage expenses for both his late biological father and stepfather.
The unfortunate incident unfolded when Wan Ibrahim, preparing to deposit the money at a bank, forgot that he had placed a bag containing the cash on the boot of his Honda Civic before leaving home. Unaware of the bag’s presence, he continued driving towards town. It was only after approximately 10 minutes, upon reaching Jertih town, that he realized the money had fallen off his car’s boot.
Heartbroken and devastated, Wan Ibrahim returned to the scene near the U-turn junction in Kampung Lak Lok. Some kind-hearted members of the public assisted in collecting the scattered money on the road, and around RM30,000 was recovered and returned to him. However, an irresponsible individual is believed to have taken the remaining cash, leaving Wan Ibrahim and his family in distress.
Wan Ibrahim promptly made a police report at Kampung Raja Police Station to seek further action in recovering the lost money. The incident took a toll on him, causing him to confine himself to his room, struggling to cope with the magnitude of the loss.
Thankfully, there was a glimmer of hope when someone returned RM1,000 from the scattered money a few days later. The woman who found the cash intended to return it earlier but found no one at home. Although the family didn’t have the chance to reward her for her honesty, they appreciated her efforts in returning the money.
Wan Mastura Wan Leh, Wan Ibrahim’s sister, shared that her brother is slowly recovering from the incident and has started going back to work. She pleaded with the person who took the remaining money to return it, as it was the fruit of her brother’s hard work and determination. The lost money was meant to support the expansion of his hairdressing business, and its loss has shaken his spirit.
The family hopes that more people will come forward to return any amount of the lost money, big or small, as it can help alleviate some of the financial losses experienced by Wan Ibrahim. Carelessness can have devastating consequences, but acts of honesty and kindness can make a significant difference in times of distress.
