1-10-2024 (HANOI) A devastating fire erupted in the heart of Cao Lanh City, Dong Thap Province, Vietnam, on the evening of 30th September. The conflagration, which began in a clothing shop on Pham Huu Lau Street in Ward 6, quickly spread to neighbouring properties, challenging local firefighting efforts.
The leader of the Cao Lanh City People’s Committee confirmed the incident, stating that authorities were actively combating the blaze as it continued to threaten the densely populated area. The fire’s proximity to Dong Thap University, a mere 500 metres away, has raised concerns about potential risks to student accommodations in the vicinity.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion emanating from the clothing shop at approximately 8 pm local time, marking the beginning of the catastrophic event. The sudden and violent nature of the fire’s onset caught many residents off guard, leading to a swift evacuation of the immediate area.
In response to the emergency, local authorities have implemented a series of urgent measures. The entire Ward 6 has been plunged into darkness as officials made the decision to cut off electricity to the area. This strategic move aims to mitigate the risk of electrical fires and to ensure the safety of firefighters and rescue personnel operating in the affected zone.
The local government has mobilised significant resources to combat the inferno. A large contingent of firefighters, supported by numerous fire engines and other emergency vehicles, has been deployed to the scene. The narrow streets and dense urban layout of the area have presented additional challenges to the firefighting efforts, requiring careful coordination and strategy.
