15-9-2023 (JAKARTA) A desire for a “fiery and smoky” wedding photoshoot led to an environmental disaster when a couple in Indonesia chose to prioritize their creative vision over safety. The ill-fated photoshoot, which used flares as props, caused a massive fire at Teletubbies Hill in the Mount Bromo National Park, resulting in the destruction of 50 hectares of land. Shockingly, neither the couple nor the film crew took immediate action to control the blaze.
The groom, who works as a wedding planner, has been arrested by Indonesian police. Authorities revealed that none of them had obtained the necessary permits to enter the Mount Bromo conservation area, and they failed to declare the equipment they brought with them.
Firefighters battled the inferno for days, sparking outrage among Indonesians and neighboring Malaysians. Concerns have arisen about the potential for a hazy season due to the environmental damage caused.
The groom is expected to face charges of causing a fire, which could result in a prison sentence of up to five years and a fine of 1.5 billion rupiah (approximately S$133,000) if convicted. Despite the destructive outcome of the wedding photoshoot, the images captured during the event remain a haunting reminder of the environmental consequences of their actions.
