18-8-2024 (MANILA) A devastating road accident in the Philippines has left a community in shock as seven individuals, including a toddler, lost their lives in a horrific crash between a passenger van and a delivery lorry. The incident occurred on Sunday morning on a bustling highway in Sariaya town, Quezon province, approximately 100 kilometres south of the capital, Manila.
According to preliminary police reports, the northbound passenger van, en route to Manila, veered suddenly into oncoming traffic, resulting in a catastrophic head-on collision with a southbound delivery lorry. Investigators believe the van driver may have momentarily fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the fatal loss of control.
Among the seven casualties was the van driver himself, whilst the lorry driver sustained severe injuries. In total, eight individuals were wounded in the crash, with several in critical condition at nearby medical facilities.
The most heart-wrenching loss was that of a two-year-old girl, whose life was cut tragically short in this senseless accident. Local authorities have not yet released the names of the victims, as they work to notify next of kin.
