22-6-2024 (FORDYCE) A tragic shooting unfolded at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas, on Friday (June 21), leaving three civilians dead and 10 others wounded, including two police officers. The suspect was also injured in an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement and taken into custody, according to Arkansas State Police director Mike Hagar.
The incident took place in the small town of Fordyce, with a population of around 3,200 people, located approximately 112 kilometers (70 miles) south of Little Rock. Hagar addressed reporters and confirmed the devastating toll, stating, “Unfortunately, we can confirm that 11 innocent civilians were shot, and three of those are deceased. Two law enforcement officers were injured in the exchange of gunfire. The suspect was also shot and taken into custody.”
While Hagar did not provide details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting or take questions, he assured that the wounded police officers and the suspect were expected to survive. The extent of the civilian injuries ranged from non-life-threatening to extremely critical.
Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to express her condolences and gratitude to the first responders. “I am thankful to law enforcement and first responders for their quick and heroic action to save lives. My prayers are with the victims and all those impacted by this horrific incident,” she wrote.
The shooting at the Mad Butcher grocery store has left the tight-knit community of Fordyce reeling in shock and grief.
