24-5-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) In a dramatic display of bravery, a group of residents in Ipoh successfully thwarted a late-night robbery attempt, foiling the plans of an armed assailant who sought to target one of their own.
The harrowing incident unfolded on the night of the 19th of this month, around 11:51 p.m., in the residential area of Bentong, Ipoh. Captured on a circulating CCTV footage, a sedan can be seen abruptly reversing near a household before a hooded individual emerges from the vehicle.
As a shirtless male resident stepped outside to investigate the commotion, the assailant, brandishing a menacing parang (traditional Malaysian machete), unleashed a frenzied attack. The five-minute and thirty-four-second video depicts the resident swiftly retreating into the safety of his home, seeking assistance from others within, as the attacker gives chase.
However, in a stunning turn of events, the would-be robber appears visibly shaken merely two to three seconds later, retreating hastily and appearing to be spooked by an unseen force. Ultimately, the assailant flees back to the waiting vehicle and makes a rapid getaway.
Moments later, a group of four to five men burst forth from the residence, some bare-chested and others wielding improvised weapons, in a valiant attempt to retaliate and apprehend the fleeing perpetrator. Despite their determined efforts to block the vehicle’s escape, the assailant managed to evade capture and flee the scene.
