4-6-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Sources have confirmed to Sin Chew Daily that Lim Kit Siang’s name is included in the list of recipients to be conferred titles on the upcoming National Head of State’s birthday. Lim Kit Siang is set to be awarded the title of “Tan Sri.”
It is further reported that the Prime Minister’s Office will announce the complete list of recipients later today at 3 p.m.
In conjunction with the upcoming National Head of State’s birthday on June 5th, His Majesty the King, Sultan Abdullah, will bestow honors upon several deserving individuals in society. News received by this publication reveals that Lim Kit Siang’s name is on the list of recipients, and he will be conferred the title of “Tan Sri.”
Since announcing his retirement last year, Lim Kit Siang has received commendations for his significant contributions to democracy in Malaysia. Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, the former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law), had previously stated that Lim Kit Siang, as one of the founding members of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), should be bestowed with the title of “Tan Sri,” just like the late Dr. Chen Man Hin, one of the party’s founders.
At 82 years old, Lim Kit Siang entered the political arena in 1965 and has been a veteran political leader in Malaysia. He has served as a Member of Parliament since 1969 and is one of the most senior political figures in the country.
He held the position of Leader of the Opposition in Parliament for many years and is the longest-serving Leader of the Opposition in Malaysian history. He is also the father of the current DAP Chairman, Lim Guan Eng.
From 1966 to 1969, Lim Kit Siang served as the National Organizing Secretary of the DAP and editor of the party’s newspaper, The Rocket. In 1969, he assumed the role of Secretary-General of the party and served as the party’s Chairman from 1999 to 2004.
Lim Kit Siang has previously been a Member of Parliament for constituencies such as Malacca City, Malacca Central, Petaling Jaya, Tanjong, Ipoh Timur, and the Princess Elizabeth District of Iskandar Puteri. He has also held positions as a state assembly member in Bukit Tambun, Penang, and Kota Melaka.
