7-3-2024 (YANGON) Myanmar authorities have taken decisive action against illegal timber trafficking, resulting in the arrest of nine suspects, as reported by the state-run media outlet, The Mirror, on Thursday.
In an operation conducted between February 26 and March 3 this year, the authorities successfully apprehended suspects and seized a substantial amount of evidence, including over 139.45 tons of timber, along with four vehicles and machines.
The confiscated timber comprised more than 44.32 tons of teak, over 15.96 tons of hardwood, and a further 79.16 tons of various other timber types.
