24-12-2023 (MANILA) The Covid-19 positivity rate in the Philippines continues to climb, reaching 18.1% as of Friday night, according to a report by Octa Research. Guido David, a fellow at Octa Research, shared this information on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, citing the December 22 report from the Department of Health (DOH) which recorded 557 new Covid-19 infections.
David highlighted that out of the 557 new cases, 235 were reported in Metro Manila. He also mentioned in his X post that these newly reported infections contributed to a nationwide total of 4,132,200 cases, with 5,569 active cases.
Earlier, David had predicted that Saturday (December 23) could see an increase of 500 to 600 new cases.
The latest Covid-19 positivity rate of 18.1% is higher than the 16.7% recorded on Wednesday, December 20, and the 15.8% recorded on Monday, December 19.
Despite fluctuations in the positivity rate throughout the week, all recorded rates have exceeded the World Health Organization’s threshold of five percent, indicating that viral transmission is not under control.
