20-9-2023 (JAKARTA) The Indonesian Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has initiated a corruption investigation into the country’s palm oil fund agency, which oversees the collection and distribution of export levies on palm oil. This investigation will encompass the period from 2015 to 2022, and as of now, 15 individuals have been questioned regarding the case, according to a statement from the AGO published late on Tuesday.
The investigation is focused on alleged unlawful activities related to the determination of Indonesia’s monthly biodiesel price index. The palm oil agency, locally known as BPDPKS, is responsible for collecting levies on shipments from the world’s largest palm oil exporting country. These proceeds are intended for various programs, including biodiesel subsidies and palm oil replanting.
The biodiesel price index plays a crucial role in determining the subsidies allocated to biodiesel producers. BPDPKS has not issued an immediate comment on the ongoing investigation.
