31-7-2023 (JAKARTA) A photo of several female students carrying airsoft guns has been circulating online, causing concern and sparking investigations. The students are revealed to be participants in an extracurricular simulation at Ponpes Baitul Qur’an Al Jahra Magetan. The school authorities have clarified the nature of the activity.
The airsoft gun-carrying students were part of a shooting simulation conducted during the School Environmental Introduction Period (Masa Pengenalan Lingkungan Sekolah – MPLS) that culminated on July 15, 2023.
According to Isgianto, the Daily Chairman of Yayasan Ponpes Baitul Qur’an Al Jahra Magetan, the shooting activity during the MPLS was facilitated by a third-party organization called PT Airsoft Pelajar Indonesia based in Solo. He mentioned that similar activities involving both police and students have also taken place.
On July 15, the participating female students took a photo during the simulation while wearing bulletproof vests. The photo subsequently went viral on social media platforms, drawing criticism from netizens.
As a result of the viral photo and advice from the local police (Polres Magetan), the school has decided to cancel the plan to establish a shooting extracurricular program.
The incident has raised concerns about safety measures and the appropriateness of such activities during school events. Further inquiries and discussions are underway to ensure appropriate guidelines and supervision for future extracurricular initiatives.
