6-8-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Malaysian Chinese stand-up comedian, Jin Yu Huang (stage name Uncle Roger), has once again landed in hot water due to his controversial remarks. In a recent video, he likened Cambodian and Laotian food to garbage, drawing sharp criticism from netizens and celebrities from both countries.
Huang is well-known for his outspoken critiques of cuisine, and this time, Cambodian media reported that in a video shared on social media about Filipino food, he made the offensive statement while referring to Southeast Asian cuisine, saying, “Not all Southeast Asian countries have good food. You wouldn’t want to eat food from Laos and Cambodia.”
Although his co-host quickly urged him to stop, Huang confidently added, “It’s like a lower version of Thai food.”
The comments triggered an immediate uproar among netizens from Cambodia and Laos, who accused him of making disrespectful remarks. Some even called for him to be banned from entering their countries and demanded a public apology.
One netizen pointed out, “As a Cambodian, I don’t care if you’re a comedian or a food critic, your behavior and words are not what a well-known content creator should exhibit. This kind of insulting language is angering the people of both countries, and they may even ban you from entering their nations…”
