9-4-2024 (SINGAPORE) A construction crane collapsed at a worksite in Sengkang, crushing a van beneath it in a startling incident on April 9.
The mishap occurred in the afternoon on Punggol Road, close to the junction of Compassvale Street. A photograph captured by a Straits Times reader reveals the toppled crane lying on its side, its extended boom spanning the road and resting on a white van, visibly damaged by the impact.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) reported being alerted to the accident at 4:55 pm, which transpired at the intersection of Punggol Road and Compassvale Street. One individual was subsequently conveyed to Sengkang General Hospital for treatment, according to SCDF.
Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing event. Mdm Tan, a 60-year-old housewife, recounted hearing a loud crash from her home. Upon investigation, she observed the aftermath of the incident but expressed relief that only one vehicle was involved, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.
