12-7-2023 (BANGKOK) The Constitutional Court in (City) has recently acknowledged a petition lodged against Prime Minister hopeful Pita Limjaroenrat and the Move Forward Party concerning their election campaign to revise Article 112 of the Criminal Code, commonly known as the lese-majeste law.
According to an official statement released by the Office of the Constitutional Court, lawyer Teerayut Suwankesorn has filed a petition questioning whether Pita and his party’s campaign could be construed as an attempt to overthrow the democratic system of government, which recognizes the King as the head of state.
The press release revealed that the court has decided to accept the petition for review, in accordance with Section 7(3) of the Organic Act on Procedures of the Constitutional Court BE 2561 (2018).
Furthermore, it stipulated that both Pita and the Move Forward Party are required to present their response to the allegations within 15 days of receiving a copy of the petition from the Constitutional Court.
