31-12-2023 (BEIJING) A collision between a Singaporean oil tanker and a Chinese fishing vessel near Shandong’s Chengshan Cape has resulted in the sinking of the fishing boat, with eight crew members currently missing.
The incident occurred at 00:08 on December 26 in the waters around Chengshan Cape.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) released a statement on Saturday (December 30), stating that authorities were notified of a collision between the Singaporean oil tanker “Pearl Kenzo” and a Chinese fishing vessel in the mentioned location. At the time of the incident, Pearl Kenzo was en route from Penglai, China, to the Zhoushan area. The Chinese Maritime Safety Administration later informed Singaporean authorities that the fishing vessel sank after the collision, and the eight crew members on board are currently missing, with search and rescue operations underway.
All crew members on the Singaporean oil tanker are reported to be unharmed, and there is no pollution reported in the vicinity waters.
The maritime authorities concluded by stating that the implicated oil tanker is currently anchored at the Shidao Port in Shandong Province, assisting Chinese authorities in their investigation. According to online sources, Pearl Kenzo is believed to have been constructed by China’s Penglai Zhongbai Jinglu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., for a Singaporean company, with a delivery and naming ceremony held just on the 18th of this month.
