27-5-2023 (Kuala Lumpur) A shocking incident unfolded in Taman Tenaga, Selangor, as a cleaning woman endured several terrifying hours confined with chains inside a bathroom. The reason behind her captivity was the suspicion of her employers, a couple, that she had stolen their jewelry. Indonesian envoy Hermono provided details of the distressing event.
According to reports, the couple used a heavy chain to restrain the woman inside the bathroom of their flat while they searched her house in hopes of finding the missing valuables. The captive woman’s desperate screams reached the ears of nearby residents, who promptly alerted the police.
Law enforcement officers had to forcefully enter the flat and carefully cut through the chains that imprisoned the cleaning lady before finally setting her free. Upon rescue, witnesses noted that she appeared physically weakened from the ordeal. A video capturing the incident quickly went viral on various social media platforms, amplifying public outrage.
Upon returning to the flat and realizing the jewelry was not in the victim’s house, the couple, aged between 40 and 50, were apprehended by the authorities. Meanwhile, the victim, an Indonesian national, has mysteriously disappeared.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed the couple’s arrest in relation to the incident and stated that they were detained under Section 342 of the Penal Code for wrongful confinement. They remained in custody until recently.
In response to the situation, Indonesian envoy Hermono visited the police station and claimed that the couple had attempted to settle the matter by paying off the victim. He expressed concern for the missing woman, speculating that her absence might be due to fear. Hermono strongly believed that the couple should face legal charges for their abusive actions.
“I have urged the police to locate the victim as her statement is crucial for pressing charges against the couple who mistreated her. In my view, they violated the law by unlawfully entering her house and subjecting her to confinement,” Hermono expressed to The Star.
The envoy further emphasized that employers should report any misconduct by their Indonesian employees to the authorities rather than resorting to vigilante actions.
