26-8-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) Dadi Cinema at Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur, is poised to introduce Malaysia’s first-ever ‘hotpot cinema’. This innovative concept promises to blend the excitement of film-watching with the savoury delights of hotpot dining.
The cinema operator recently offered a sneak peek of this unique experience during the premiere of “The Unwavering Brotherhood”, hosting a select group of influencers for a trial run. While specific details remain under wraps, Dadi Cinema has confirmed via social media that the official launch is imminent.
Photographs shared by the company provide a tantalising glimpse into what cinema-goers can expect. The premium Star+ Hall has been reimagined, with personal hotpot pans and an array of ingredients placed before patrons as they recline in luxurious twin leatherette seats. According to inside sources, diners will have the choice of three soup bases: the fiery mala, tangy tomato, or nourishing chicken collagen.
This culinary cinema concept, while new to Malaysia, has already gained traction in China, where Dadi Cinema Group – the second-largest cinema chain in the country – has its roots. The company expanded into the Malaysian market in 2021, bringing with it a wealth of innovative ideas from its home territory.
However, the announcement has sparked a mixed reaction among potential patrons. Some have expressed concerns about hygiene, fearing that the combination of food and dark theatres could attract pests. Others have raised safety issues, particularly regarding the handling of hot soup in dimly lit environments.
There are also worries about lingering food odours potentially affecting the cinema atmosphere. These concerns highlight the challenges Dadi Cinema may face in implementing this novel concept while maintaining the traditional cinema experience.
