19-7-2023 (BEIJING) Chinese President Xi Jinping exchanged congratulatory messages with Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni on Wednesday, marking the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cambodia. In his message, Xi praised the longstanding ties between the two countries and the progress made in the “diamond hexagon” cooperation framework, which covers politics, production capacity, agriculture, energy, security, and people-to-people exchanges. He also highlighted the events held to celebrate the anniversary and the China-Cambodia Friendship Year.
King Sihamoni, in his message, expressed his belief that the Cambodia-China friendship and mutually-beneficial cooperation will continue to strengthen, and that the iron-clad friendship will be passed down through generations. He added that Cambodia is willing to deepen cooperation in all fields with China to benefit the two nations and promote regional and world peace, stability, and prosperity.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang also exchanged congratulations with his Cambodian counterpart, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, and noted that bilateral relations stand at a new starting point. Hun Sen, for his part, reaffirmed Cambodia’s adherence to the one-China policy and support for China’s Belt and Road Initiative and other important proposals. He highlighted Cambodia’s willingness to work with China to build a Cambodia-China community with a shared future and safeguard the common interests of the two countries and their people.
