22-4-2024 (PHNOM PENH) The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) announced on Sunday the successful repatriation of over 680 suspects involved in gambling and scams from Cambodia.
Two civilian flights, chartered by the police, transported the final group of 135 suspects back to Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province in central China, earlier in the day.
This achievement marks the culmination of repatriation efforts this year, following collaborative operations between Chinese and Cambodian law enforcement to crack down on criminal activities related to gambling and fraud, as stated by the ministry.
The repatriation process commenced earlier this month, with suspects being returned in batches.
In recent years, Chinese law enforcement agencies have significantly bolstered international cooperation to combat prevalent crimes such as cross-border gambling and telecommunications scams.
Throughout this year alone, Chinese police have repatriated tens of thousands of suspects involved in such activities from various countries, including Myanmar, the Philippines, and the United Arab Emirates.
The MPS reiterated its commitment to maintaining rigorous pressure on these criminal activities, while also issuing a reminder to the public to remain vigilant.
