18-12-2023 (SINGAPORE) A 52-year-old Chinese national, Zhang Xiuqiang, is facing charges for allegedly stealing S$31,000 from passengers during a Scoot flight from Vietnam to Singapore. The charges, three in total, were filed on December 18, following the reported incident that took place on Saturday, December 16
The alleged theft occurred on Scoot flight TR305, en route from Ho Chi Minh City to Singapore, between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm. According to the charge sheets, Zhang is accused of stealing from three passengers during this timeframe.
One of the reported victims, Lim Janus, had S$600 and 3 million Vietnamese dong (S$164) allegedly taken from his backpack by Zhang. Another passenger, Tan Chin Kwang, claimed that S$50 and 510 million Vietnamese dong (S$27,900) were stolen from his black haversack by the accused. Zhang is also accused of taking US$1,000 (S$1,330) and S$930 from an envelope in a grey bag that belonged to Park Sanggu.
Zhang has been remanded for further investigations and is scheduled to return to court on December 22. If convicted of theft, he could face a jail term of up to three years, a fine, or both for each charge. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring the safety and security of passengers during flights.
