31-12-2024 (BEIJING) A Chinese national has achieved remarkable proficiency in Japanese through an unconventional method that has sparked widespread attention across social media platforms.
Jakku Song, who recently passed the prestigious N2 level of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), claims his success stems from watching more than 4,500 Japanese adult films – a method that has raised eyebrows amongst traditional language educators.
The achievement is particularly noteworthy as Song has never participated in formal Japanese language instruction. His successful completion of the N2 examination qualifies him for admission to Japanese universities and vocational institutions, marking a significant milestone in his self-taught linguistic journey.
“It was pure immersion learning,” Song explained through his YouTube channel, where he regularly shares his experiences with his growing follower base. His social media presence, including his Instagram account, features playful self-styled monikers such as “Asia’s last gentleman” and “Prince of dirty jokes”.

In a characteristically theatrical video announcement of his achievement, Song displayed his N2 certificate whilst expressing gratitude to various Japanese actresses who, he claims, unwittingly became his language instructors. The video, which has amassed nearly one million views, showcases his distinctive approach to content creation and language acquisition.
The announcement has generated considerable response from Japanese social media users, with many praising his dedication despite the unconventional methodology. “Achieving N2 certification is remarkable, regardless of the learning method,” noted one commenter, whilst another observed, “Beneath the humorous exterior lies genuine dedication.”
Song’s accomplishment, whilst unorthodox, adds to the ongoing discourse about alternative language learning methodologies in an era where traditional educational approaches are increasingly being supplemented by various forms of media consumption.
