8-8-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will be visiting Malaysia on Friday, and they will have a meeting in Penang.
Anwar made this statement today while attending an event in Taiping. He stated, “I informed Wang Yi that I will be busy with election activities in Penang and Kedah on the 11th of this month, and I won’t have time to meet him in Kuala Lumpur. Wang Yi agreed to meet us in Penang.”
Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, hinted that this meeting with Wang Yi is expected to attract more investments.
Wang Yi previously visited Malaysia for an official two-day visit on the 11th and 12th of July when he was serving as the Foreign Minister. Malaysia and China upgraded their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2013, and their ties have continued to deepen. Therefore, Wang Yi’s current visit holds special significance as it commemorates the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the partnership and the 49th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
