26-6-2023 (CALIFORNIA) A bald, deformed Chinese Crested dog named Scooter has won the title of “World’s Ugliest Dog” this year, sticking out its tongue on stage as it proudly accepted the award. Scooter, who is seven years old, beat out seven other unattractive canine contestants, including a hairless mixed breed and a dog with wild, unkempt hair.
Scooter’s owner, Linda Celeste Elmquist, said the honour was well-deserved as he had triumphed over the other seven ugly dogs. Linda adopted Scooter earlier this year after the Saving Animals From Euthanasia group could no longer take care of him.
Reportedly, Scooter’s owner had planned to have him put down by an animal organisation shortly after he was born because his rear joints and legs were deformed. However, disability has never stopped the happy-go-lucky Scooter. The clever dog has been walking on his front legs since he was a pup, but he sits on his hind legs like a tripod when resting.
Scooter competed against seven other dogs with unattractive appearances, including a hairless mixed breed and a dog with wild, unkempt hair. Last year, Happy Face, another Chinese Crested dog, won the competition.
The “World’s Ugliest Dog” competition, which has been held for almost 50 years, aims to highlight the importance of adoption over purchasing and to show that any dog, regardless of appearance, deserves love and care.
