2-7-2023 (PARIS) Chinese Consulate General in Marseille has lodged a formal complaint with France following an incident where a
in the southern city had its windows smashed, resulting in minor injuries, according to a statement released by China’s Consular Affairs Office on Sunday.
The complaint from the Consulate General urged France to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens and their property, emphasizing the need for adequate security measures.
The bus was reportedly attacked by rioters on Thursday amid the recent wave of violence in French cities following the police shooting of a teenager of North African descent. The statement confirmed that the Chinese tourists have already left France.
In light of the ongoing riots that have swept the country in recent days, the Consular office statement also advised Chinese citizens residing in or traveling to France to exercise caution and remain vigilant. It urged them to take extra precautions and “strengthen prevention” to ensure their safety.
While the intensity of the riots appeared to have decreased on Saturday due to the deployment of tens of thousands of police officers across various cities after the teenager’s funeral, there were still pockets of tension in central Paris and sporadic clashes reported in Nice, Strasbourg, and Marseille.
