26-1-2024 (BANGKOK) State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi of China is set to embark on a four-day official visit to Thailand starting today, as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press release.
One of the key highlights of Wang Yi’s visit will be the co-signing of the Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption for Holders of Ordinary Passports and Passports for Public Affairs with his Thai counterpart, Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara. This agreement, slated to take effect on March 1, aims to facilitate travel between the two nations.
Scheduled from January 26 to 29, Wang Yi’s official visit seeks to bolster cooperation between Thailand and China across various domains including trade, investment, security, culture, and tourism. Additionally, the visit will provide a platform for both sides to engage in discussions on regional and international matters of mutual concern.
Thailand, emphasizing its adherence to the One China policy, will use this opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to fostering robust Thai-Chinese relations. The discussions will also delve into shared interests and international principles, aiming towards the establishment of a Thailand-China Community with a Shared Future for Enhanced Stability, Prosperity, and Sustainability.
Notably, 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Thailand and China, adding significance to the ongoing dialogue and cooperation between the two nations.
During his visit, Wang Yi is scheduled to extend a courtesy call on Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin. Additionally, alongside Parnpree, he will co-chair the First Meeting of the Consultation Mechanism between the foreign ministries of Thailand and China.
Wang Yi’s upcoming visit builds upon his previous trip to Thailand in July 2022, underlining the commitment of both nations to strengthen bilateral ties and foster closer cooperation in various spheres.
