27-11-2024 (BEIJING) Defence Minister Dong Jun has reportedly become the subject of an anti-corruption investigation, marking an unprecedented third consecutive probe into the country’s top military position.
According to reports by the Financial Times, citing both current and former US officials, Dong’s investigation represents the latest chapter in Beijing’s sweeping anti-corruption campaign targeting the upper echelons of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
This development follows the dramatic removal of his predecessor, Li Shangfu, who served merely seven months in the position before being dismissed under similar circumstances.
