11-11-2023 (BEIJING) China Southern Airlines assured customers on Thursday that it would honor ticket sales priced as low as US$1.30, stemming from a two-hour technical glitch on its mobile app and various ticket-booking platforms late on Wednesday.
Reports started emerging on Chinese social media around 8 pm on Wednesday, revealing that numerous flights to and from Chengdu, a southwest metropolis, were available for 10, 20, or 30 yuan on China Southern’s app. A screenshot circulating online showed a Chengdu to Beijing ticket priced at just 10 yuan, significantly lower than the usual minimum price of 400 to 500 yuan.
The incredibly low prices were offered for approximately two hours on the carrier’s app and several ticket-booking platforms, including the market leader, Trip.com. In addition to the ticket price, buyers were required to pay a minimum of 110 yuan for airport fees and fuel surcharges.
China Southern, based in Guangzhou, reassured passengers that the tickets could be used as normal, provided they were already paid for and issued.
