15-7-2023 (WASHINGTON) Karl Quilter, a 58-year-old man from Chicago, has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for sexually exploiting children in the Philippines. Quilter pleaded guilty to the crime last year, admitting that he solicited sexually explicit photos and videos from young girls in the Philippines.
According to the US Attorney’s Office for the North District of Illinois, Quilter enticed at least nine girls to produce sexually explicit content and send it to him via social media platforms like Facebook, Viber, and Skype between 2017 and 2020. He used money transfers to the victims’ families to entice the girls to record the images.
“This was not a one-time aberration, but rather a years-long pattern of predatory abuse and exploitation of minors,” said Assistant US attorney Ashley Chung in the government’s sentencing memorandum. “Victim by victim, and message by message, defendant used social media and the internet to target and groom young Filipino girls.”
Quilter was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison by US District Judge Virginia Kendall. He was arrested in Chicago in November 2020 and will serve his sentence in a federal prison.
