12-7-2023 (PRAGUE) Milan Kundera, the Czech writer known for his internationally acclaimed novel “The Unbearable Lightness of Being”, has passed away at the age of 94. Anna Mrazova, a spokeswoman for the Milan Kundera Library in his hometown of Brno, confirmed his death, stating that he had been suffering from a prolonged illness.
Kundera was born in Brno in 1929 and became one of the most celebrated writers of the 20th century. He was a leading figure of the Czech literary scene in the 1960s and 1970s, with his works exploring themes of love, philosophy, and politics. “The Unbearable Lightness of Being”, which was published in 1984, brought Kundera worldwide recognition and was later adapted into a film.
