29-5-2024 (SINGAPORE) A determined car dealer embarked on a daring pursuit to apprehend a “cloned” vehicle bearing the same license plate as one of his customer’s cars. The dramatic incident, captured on a dashboard camera and shared online.
The heart-pounding chase began on May 28th when the man, identified as an employee of A Star Motors Pte Ltd, a local car dealership, spotted the dark-colored Mitsubishi at the junction of Admiralty Road and Marsiling Lane. His unwavering determination stemmed from weeks of tracking down the vehicle, which had been implicated in numerous traffic violations, including speeding and driving off without paying for petrol – offenses that his customer had been wrongfully penalized for despite being overseas at the time.
The footage showcased the man’s bold actions as he ran onto the road, gesturing to other drivers to maintain their positions, effectively creating a blockade around the Mitsubishi. Two truck drivers heeded his instructions, remaining stationary even as the traffic lights turned green, allowing the man to confront the suspect vehicle.
As the Mitsubishi driver attempted to reverse and flee through the gap between the trucks, the determined car dealer stood his ground, refusing to let the vehicle escape. The tension escalated when the Mitsubishi driver attempted to ram through the blockade, but the trucks held firm, preventing the car’s passage.
In a dramatic turn of events, police officers arrived on the scene and began attempting to break the driver’s window. The Mitsubishi’s driver, undeterred, reversed swiftly and tried to ram their way out of the traffic, striking another vehicle in the process before coming to a halt.
The officers, unfazed by the suspect’s desperation, managed to break the driver’s window, allowing the car dealer to lunge forward and grab the driver. In a separate video, the driver was seen being hauled out of the vehicle and pinned to the ground, bringing an end to the intense pursuit.
Speaking about the incident, the man in grey shared his unwavering determination, stating, “I just wanted him to stop as the police were just behind. I didn’t expect things to get so messy.” His resolve stemmed from a chance encounter with the “cloned” car near his home around two weeks prior, after his customer had reported receiving numerous summonses and being implicated in cases where a car had driven off without paying for petrol.
The man’s persistence led him to follow the vehicle from Yishun to Yio Chu Kang, then to Woodlands, and finally to Admiralty Road, where the dramatic standoff unfolded.
