15-12-2023 (BANGKOK) In a tragic incident that occurred in the early hours of Friday, a Canadian man and his Thai wife were brutally stabbed to death by their neighbour, who rented a house next door in the Muang district of Khon Kaen province.
The deputy chief investigator at Ban Pet police station, Pol Col Chaiwanich Kamkamool, reported that the incident took place around 12:30 a.m. at house No. 380 in Moo 10 village, tambon Ban Thum. Authorities were immediately alerted and police, along with forensic officials and rescue workers, swiftly arrived at the scene.
Upon their arrival, the lifeless bodies of Michael Nixon, 54, and his Thai wife, Anurak, 47, were discovered in front of their two-storey residence. The suspect, identified as Kachornsak Panyadee, a 36-year-old cotton candy roti (a popular Thai snack) vendor from Ban Thaen district in Chaiyaphum, had surrendered to the police. He was in possession of a one-foot-long sharp-pointed knife and admitted to fatally stabbing the couple.
Michael Nixon and Anurak Nixon were found dead in front of their two-storey home. The suspect, Kachornsak Panyadee, a 36-year-old tenant from Chaiyaphum’s Ban Thaen district, surrendered to the police and confessed to using the knife to carry out the brutal attack. The motive for the crime remains unknown.
According to Pol Col Preecha Kengsarikij, a deputy police chief in Khon Kaen, the investigation revealed that frequent arguments over parking spaces had strained the relationship between Mr Kachornsak and the couple. Mr Kachornsak claimed that his house’s entrance was frequently blocked by motorcycles and cars belonging to visitors who would come to see the couple at night.
On Thursday night, the parking dispute escalated when the couple received a group of foreign guests. Mr Kachornsak waited until after midnight when the guests had left. Armed with the knife, he approached the couple’s house, knocked on the door, and when Anurak answered, he viciously stabbed her. Michael, attempting to come to his wife’s aid, was then stabbed three times.
The authorities promptly apprehended Mr Kachornsak, who was subsequently charged with murder. Pol Col Preecha added that investigators would conduct further questioning to ascertain the motive behind the killings and prepare a comprehensive investigation report for the prosecutors.
