26-7-2023 (PHON PENH) Cambodia’s dry rubber exports witnessed a 2.72 percent increase in the first half of 2023, reaching 139,220 tons compared to 135,537 tons during the same period last year, as reported by the General Directorate of Rubber on Wednesday.
However, despite the rise in export volume, the revenue generated from these exports faced a decline of 13.5 percent. The country earned 187 million U.S. dollars from January to June this year, in contrast to the 216.3 million dollars earned in the corresponding period last year, according to the report.
Him Oun, the director general of the General Directorate of Rubber, explained that the average cost of a ton of dry rubber in the first semester of 2023 was 1,344 U.S. dollars, marking a decrease of approximately 252 dollars compared to the same period last year.
Cambodia predominantly exports its rubber commodity to Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, and China, focusing on these Southeast Asian markets.
The report also revealed that Cambodia has cultivated rubber trees over an area of 404,578 hectares. Among these, 315,332 hectares, constituting 78 percent of the total area, have matured enough to be tapped for rubber production.
