4-8-2023 (PHNOM PENH) Cambodia’s renowned Angkor Archeological Park has generated $20.3 million in revenue from ticket sales during the first seven months of 2023, according to a report released on Friday by the state-owned Angkor Enterprise. This marks a 502 percent increase from the same period last year when revenue was recorded at $3.37 million. The report also stated that the park attracted 439,365 international tourists during the January-July period this year, a 424 percent increase from 83,854 visitors during the same period in 2022.
The top five source markets for visitors to the ancient site were the United States, Britain, France, South Korea, and China, with China’s reopening earlier this year being credited as a significant factor in the growth of tourists to Angkor. Cambodian Ministry of Tourism’s Secretary of State and Spokesman, Top Sopheak, expressed hope that more international tourists will come to Cambodia, particularly to Angkor, in the coming years as many airlines have resumed their flights to the country.
Located in northwest Siem Reap province, the Angkor Archeological Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the most popular tourist destination in Cambodia. Covering an area of 401 square km, the park contains the remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire from the ninth to the 15th centuries and includes several key temples such as Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Bayon, Chau Say Tevoda, and Ta Keo.
