(Chanthaburi) Authorities in Chanthaburi province apprehended a 23-year-old Cambodian man, Samnang I-eng, who had fled to Thailand after being accused of committing sex crimes in Cambodia. The arrest was made by Chanthaburi Immigration officers on Monday, following an arrest warrant issued by the Chon Buri Provincial Court on November 24, 2020.
According to reports from KhaoSod, Samnang is facing charges related to the abduction of a minor aged between 15 and 18, engaging in indecent acts or rape with a minor aged between 15 and 18, and committing indecent acts against a person above the age of 15.
Investigations conducted by Sri Racha Police Station revealed that Samnang had applied for employment under the Thai government’s scheme for foreign workers from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam. This information prompted the police to alert Chanthaburi Immigration officers. Subsequently, Samnang was located on the roadside near the Chanthaburi Immigration Office in Wat Mai subdistrict, Mueang district. Immigration officers requested to see his documentation, to which Samnang initially admitted his identity as the person mentioned in the arrest warrant. He was then escorted to Sri Racha Police Station in Chon Buri for further legal proceedings.
