25-6-2023 (PHNOM PENH) Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen asserted on Sunday that only the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) can ensure peace and development as the country prepares for an upcoming general election next month.
Speaking at a gathering with approximately 22,000 factory workers in Bavet City, located in the southeastern Svay Rieng Province, Hun Sen emphasized that the CPP remains the most reliable choice for safeguarding peace and development. He stated that no other political parties have the capability to replace the CPP.
Hun Sen urged the public to vote for the CPP in the upcoming election, emphasizing that doing so is crucial for maintaining the momentum of peace and development in Cambodia.
Having governed the country since 1979, the CPP-led government, according to Hun Sen, has successfully attracted global investors across various sectors, resulting in the creation of millions of job opportunities for local residents.
The Prime Minister reassured that the government will continue its efforts to attract foreign investment, aiming to generate approximately 300,000 new jobs annually for the younger generation. He also projected a 5.6% economic growth rate for Cambodia in 2023, with expectations of reaching 6.6% in 2024.
Scheduled for July 23, 2023, Cambodia’s general election will determine the composition of the 125-seat National Assembly.
The National Election Committee has confirmed the participation of 18 political parties in the upcoming election, with over 9.7 million eligible voters expected to cast their ballots.
In the previous general election held five years ago, the CPP secured all 125 seats in the National Assembly.
