8-1-2025 (BANGKOK) A prominent Cambodian opposition figure was fatally shot Tuesday evening near one of Bangkok’s most revered Buddhist temples, in what appears to be a targeted assassination.
Lim Kimya, 74, a former member of parliament with the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) and dual French citizen, was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds outside Wat Bowonniwet Vihara in Bangkok’s historic Phra Nakhon district.
According to local authorities, the shooting occurred around 6 pm when an unidentified assailant on a motorcycle approached Lim, who had just arrived in Bangkok by bus from Siem Reap with his French wife. The gunman fired multiple shots, striking the victim in his right flank and shoulder, before fleeing the scene.
Metropolitan Police investigators have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who was seen riding a red Honda Wave 100 motorcycle bearing the registration number 845. Witnesses described the attacker as wearing casual attire consisting of a grey short-sleeved shirt and jeans, along with a helmet and chest bag, which police believe may have concealed the murder weapon.
