10-4-2024 (PHNOM PENH) Cambodia has secured the top spot in ASEAN and ranks third among the 20 fastest-growing economies in Asia, boasting a robust growth rate of 6.1% in 2024, according to a report by Cambodian National Radio via the Khmer Times.
Pen Bona, spokesperson of the Royal Government of Cambodia, highlighted that this ranking, published by the Indonesian statistics firm SeasiaStats, is based on forecasts from international financial institutions.
Reflecting on Cambodia’s economic journey, Bona noted the country’s history of high and consistent economic growth, which averaged around 7% under the leadership of former Prime Minister Hun Sen. This growth was catalyzed by the achievement of full peace and the implementation of a win-win policy in 1998.
Despite the unprecedented challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, Cambodia has displayed remarkable resilience under the leadership of the Royal Government, led by Prime Minister Hun Sen. The government’s prudent management has helped mitigate the impact of the health crisis, steering the country towards gradual recovery.
Undeterred by global economic challenges, Cambodia’s Royal Government, led by Prime Minister Hun Manet, has unveiled an ambitious pentagon strategy aimed at propelling the nation to high-income status by 2050. This comprehensive vision underscores the government’s steadfast commitment to economic growth.
Bona emphasized that to achieve this goal, six priority policy programs have been implemented immediately, with a focus on improving the lives of the people, particularly the poor and vulnerable.
