28-1-2024 (BANGKOK) British skydiver lost his life while attempting an unauthorized base jump from the rooftop of a 29-storey condominium in Pattaya. The victim, identified as Mr. Nathy Odinson, 33, held a British passport and was known for his popular Facebook page, “Nathy’s Sky Photography,” which boasts over 5,000 likes and more than 10,000 followers.
Local authorities in Pattaya received a distress call at 7:30 pm and promptly rushed to the scene in Tambon Na Klua, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province. They discovered Mr. Odinson’s lifeless body on the ground. A partially deployed round blue parachute was found on him.
According to security officials at the condominium, they were alerted by the sound of a heavy object crashing and subsequently heard a woman crying. They immediately went to investigate, finding Mr. Odinson in critical condition. Sadly, his injuries proved fatal.
The condo security personnel revealed that Mr. Odinson had gained unauthorized access to the premises by parking his car outside. He then proceeded to ascend to the rooftop with the intention of performing a base jump, while his friend filmed the event from the ground. During the jump, he collided with tree branches before plummeting to the ground.
It was also disclosed that Mr. Odinson had previously engaged in unauthorized base jumping at the same location on multiple occasions.
Deputy Inspector Police Captain Kamolporn Nadee of Bang Lamung Police Station stated that the victim’s friend, who was present to record the video, was questioned by the authorities. Additionally, the police intend to review the condominium’s security camera footage as part of their investigation.
Mr. Odinson’s Facebook page showcased various videos of his skydiving and base jumping escapades from numerous locations across Thailand. Some of his posts even tagged a Facebook page named “Thai Sky Adventurers,” which offers skydiving packages for adventurous tourists using small planes. The tourism company is located in Si Racha district, Chonburi.
