4-6-2024 (SINGAPORE) A 39-year-old man stands accused of stealing over S$6,000 from a licensed moneylender outlet in Tampines on Monday (3 June). The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, as the suspect allegedly brandished a knife and demanded cash from a female victim.
According to a press release from the Singapore Police Force (SPF), officers were alerted to the armed robbery at the moneylender outlet in Tampines Central 1 at approximately 2.10 pm on Monday. Preliminary investigations revealed that the robber, donning a mask and cap, approached the female victim at knifepoint and demanded that she place cash into a bag.
The daring heist yielded a staggering S$6,095 in stolen funds, leaving the victim undoubtedly shaken by the terrifying ordeal.
In a swift response, the SPF mobilized its resources, and responding officers received a detailed description of the suspect from the victim while en route to the scene. Upon arrival, the officers promptly identified an individual matching the description and wasted no time in apprehending the man.
Remarkably, the suspect was taken into custody within a mere half an hour of the robbery, a testament to the efficiency and dedication of the law enforcement agency. Not only was the man arrested, but the stolen cash and the knife used during the incident were also recovered, providing crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation.
The suspect now faces the full weight of the law, as he is set to be charged with armed robbery today (4 June). If found guilty, the consequences are severe – he could face up to 14 years’ imprisonment and a mandatory minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
