Earlier reports from Turkish media indicated that an explosion had occurred near the parliament and ministerial buildings, with footage broadcasted showing debris scattered on a street close to the Interior Ministry. Reuters footage captured the scene, revealing the presence of soldiers, ambulances, fire trucks, and an armoured vehicle. Several roads in the capital were blocked off by the police.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya took to the social media platform X to provide further details, confirming that two police officers sustained minor injuries during the incident, which occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. (0630 GMT). Yerlikaya stated, “Two terrorists came with a light commercial vehicle in front of the entrance gate of the General Directorate of Security of our Ministry of Internal Affairs and carried out a bomb attack.” He further revealed that one of the attackers detonated himself while the other was “neutralised,” indicating that the latter was likely killed.
