4-11-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) A security officer is due to appear in court today to face charges related to the alleged assault of a deaf e-hailing driver at a prominent Kuala Lumpur hotel earlier this year, police officials have confirmed.
The incident, which occurred on May 28, has drawn significant attention after the victim initially reported being attacked by a dignitary’s bodyguard in the hotel’s lobby, though he later withdrew his complaint. The accused will be charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, according to sources quoted by Berita Harian.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa revealed that investigators have gathered statements from twelve individuals as part of their comprehensive inquiry into the incident. The witness list includes hotel staff, members of the Royal Malaysia Police’s Special Action Unit, the accused’s security colleagues, the victim’s companion, medical personnel, and a senior representative from the ride-hailing company’s operations team.
The case has highlighted concerns about the treatment of differently-abled service workers and sparked discussions about security protocols at high-end establishments. Despite the victim’s decision to withdraw his initial complaint, authorities proceeded with their investigation, leading to today’s court proceedings.
