31-12-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) Police have confirmed the discovery of a body belonging to 15-year-old Ye Xinyuan, a Form 3 student who had been reported missing since 19th December. Several individuals, including the victim’s 16-year-old boyfriend, have been taken into custody to assist with investigations.
The teenager’s remains were discovered in Banting, Selangor, and have been transported to Banting Hospital for post-mortem examination. The case, which began as a missing person investigation, has now transformed into a murder inquiry.
Ye was last seen when she informed her family she was heading to a lion dance practice session at a billiard centre along Mile 11, Cheras Road. According to the lion dance instructor, Ye had recently entered into a romantic relationship with a former 16-year-old student of the dance hall.
CCTV footage has emerged showing Ye taking a taxi to her boyfriend’s residence in the early hours of the day she vanished. The boyfriend, whose identity is being withheld due to his age, initially denied having prolonged contact with Ye when questioned by authorities. He claimed that following dinner together, they had quarrelled, after which Ye allegedly departed in a taxi.
In what investigators now view as a suspicious move, the boyfriend filed a police report on 23rd December, maintaining that Ye had not been in his company during the period in question.
